This practice broke my trust into a thousand pieces when I delivered my first daughter. I was hurt badly and denied basic patient rights. They took away my bodily autonomy. It was not an emergency. It was an uncomplicated birth, in which I was physically forced onto my back for the convenience of the providers. I tried asking them what happened so many times. All I got was that I, a first time mother with a completely failed epidural, denied any other pain medication, and told to be quiet and stop screaming when I was pushing, was a “difficult patient”. They had me believing that it was my fault. And when I became pregnant again, with twins, they terrified my partner and I with overbearing “counseling” and I was literally told when just trying to discuss birth preferences, that if I didn’t listen to them, “a baby could die.” These people pretended to care about me, but they didn’t care about me or my health and well-being at all. They care about convenience, about their reputation, about making money I suppose. It breaks my heart into a thousand pieces every time I remember the birth of my daughter, and the seeds of fear they planted in me about my twin pregnancy have plagued my mind the entire time. My doctors now have been shocked when I explain in the simplest details what happened to me during my first birth. “It shouldn’t have happened.” No, it shouldn’t have. But it did. And literally nothing can change that. Nothing can make it better. At least my practice now, an hour away at a totally different hospital because I couldn’tfeel safe anywhere near this practice or Yale, has been nothing but encouraging to me about this twin pregnancy. Their “counseling” is gentle, informative, but has never left me in tears or terrified. Their extensive schooling and training has given them a confidence that these medwives just don’t have. And that confidence is what is allowing me to, very slowly, heal. No more fear mongering. No more victim blaming. No more.

Tried to call and schedule to make a new patient appt and they were not helpful at all. Kept getting hung up on and never got responses back from any emails. I got an email from Natasha to call the office so that they can receive more information. I called at noon and spoke with a woman who told me Id expect a call back at 3:30 and never received one. After that I kept getting ghosted during calls and no email reply. Zero customer service.

I would recommend WHA to anyone who is looking for a birthing team that is receptive to your thoughts and feelings. My birth in August was nothing short of magical. I felt completely in charge and supported by my midwife. They fully honored all of my requests. Even the one that follows, which goes against the current recommendations. I was GBS positive at 34 weeks in my pregnancy, I asked to be retested at 39 and was negative (Call me crazy but I think by eating grapefruits!) at 42 weeks I gave birth and requested no antibiotic, no IV during labor as someone who over researches everything I felt comfortable with my choice . They informed me of the current standards in the US but supported me without shaming or guilting me. My partner was the first person to touch our daughter (which was also my request). They met that one with excitement! and guided him in taking her out and putting her on my chest once her shoulders were born. I felt listened to and respected with this practice, it is sad to say that those two things are not a bare minimum standard of every practice. I felt WHA always gave me time and listened to all my questions and concerns. I will absolutely see WHA again the next time I am pregnant.

I am surprised there arent more reviews on this practice, but Im happy to contribute one. My twin boys are now 10 years old, but the supportive care I received from these amazing ladies is unparalleled to my previous traumatic experience. My first birth experience at another practice was horrendous and I suffered PTSD from it. I wanted to experience a natural birth and being pregnant with twins made me fearful that I would again have to endure intervention. They assured me they would support me and make my experience a better one, no matter how I delivered my twins. My beautiful boys were born naturally and I still continue to go to this practice to this day for my womanly health needs. Their care is compassionate and personal. My first experience there was with the late, amazing, Debbie. Her soul definitely lives on there. Its a great village of support when welcoming a child into the world and to continue your care as a mom and a woman.
